New Players Are Very Welcome
Girls cricket at Cheam is designed to be warm, friendly and supportive. Many girls start with little or no cricket experience, and that is completely fine. Sessions focus on enjoyment, confidence, teamwork and learning the game at the right pace.
Whether your daughter is trying cricket for the first time, plays at school, or already wants more match opportunities, Cheam CC will help her find the right place to start.

Why Girls Cricket?
Cricket helps girls build confidence, friendships and teamwork while staying active outdoors. It teaches coordination, resilience and decision-making in a supportive team setting.
At Cheam, girls can start gently, develop at their own pace, and move from softball into hardball cricket when it is right for their confidence, skills and cricket journey.s

Supporting School Cricket
Club cricket can help girls feel more confident when cricket is played at school. At Cheam, sessions are led by cricket-specific coaches who can give focused technical support beyond what many general school PE settings are able to provide.
That extra practice can help players enjoy school cricket more, feel ready to take part, and develop skills that support PE lessons and school fixtures.

Softball & Hardball Cricket
Girls cricket at Cheam starts with softball — a softer ball format that is ideal for building confidence, learning to bat, bowl and field, and developing the basics of the game in a safe and enjoyable way. Many girls begin with no experience at all and progress quickly.
When players are ready — usually around U13 or U15 — they transition to hardball cricket. Coaches guide this move carefully, ensuring girls feel prepared and confident before making the switch. There is no pressure or fixed timeline.

Girls Cricket Pathway
Whether you're 5 or 17, there's a place for you in girls cricket at Cheam. Our structured pathway means every girl progresses at her own pace, with age-appropriate coaching and competition at every stage.
Ages 5-8: Mini Cricket (softball, mixed) — fun introduction, no experience needed. Ages 9-12: Junior Girls Training (softball & hardball) — skills development in dedicated sessions. Ages 13-17: Senior Girls Training (hardball) — competitive preparation, match-ready coaching. Friendly Matches: Regular internal and inter-club friendlies throughout the season. Festivals: Surrey and local festivals including girls-only and mixed events. ECB Pathway: Players ready for higher levels can access ECB talent pathways through Cheam CC.

Training & Taster Sessions
Girls cricket training at Cheam takes place every Friday evening from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at our ground. Sessions are led by ECB-qualified coaches and cover batting, bowling, fielding, and match skills. All ages 5–17 are welcome and no experience is needed — we group players by age and ability so everyone progresses at their own pace.

Kit & Equipment
Girls cricket at Cheam is played in whites for match days, with our maroon and gold club kit for league games. Comfortable sportswear is absolutely fine for training sessions and taster sessions — no kit required to get started.
The club has bats, balls, and protective equipment for players to borrow while getting started. When you're ready to buy, our Pitchero shop stocks approved Cheam CC kit at member prices.

Matches, Leagues & Festivals
Our girls' teams compete in the Surrey Women/Girls Cricket Championship, providing structured league cricket from Under-11 through to senior level. Fixtures run from May to August, with matches typically played on Sunday afternoons.
Girls aged 11 and over play hardball/softball cricket in competitive T20 format against clubs across Surrey. All fixtures are arranged through the club — parents simply drop off and collect at our ground on Peaches Close.
Younger players in the softball section take part in inter-club festivals and hardball transition sessions. These friendly festivals are a perfect, low-pressure introduction to match-day cricket.
Each season we also enter girls' teams in Surrey Cricket Foundation festival programmes, giving players the chance to meet girls from clubs across the county and experience festival-style cricket.
Home matches are played at Cheam Cricket Club, Peaches Close, Cheam, SM2 7BJ. The ground has changing rooms, a clubhouse, and a well-maintained outfield in a beautiful setting.

Summer Camps & Year-Round Cricket
Summer Cricket Camps
Our girls' cricket camps run during school holidays and are open to girls aged 5–17. Sessions are run by ECB-qualified coaches and cover batting, bowling, fielding, and match play in a fun and safe environment. Places are limited — register early to avoid disappointment.
Year-Round Training
Cricket at Cheam doesn't stop when the outdoor season ends. We run indoor winter training sessions at local facilities from October through March, keeping girls active and developing their skills all year round. Training times are Fridays 6:00pm–7:30pm.

Qualified Coaching
ECB-Qualified Coaches
Every girls' cricket session at Cheam is led by ECB-qualified coaches holding Level 2 and Level 3 coaching awards. Our coaching team includes specialists in junior and women's cricket development, with experience helping girls progress from complete beginners to representative cricket.
All coaches are fully DBS-checked and hold current ECB safeguarding certificates. We run sessions with small group sizes to give each girl personal attention, helping every player develop at her own pace in a safe and supportive environment.
