Free Winter Cricket Open Days in Sutton

Cheam Cricket Club opens the first night of each winter block to children who have never trained with us before. It is free, it is indoors, and there is nothing to pay and nothing to join. Come along, try it, and decide afterwards.

We run two Open Days, one at the start of each block.

Open Day 1 — Tuesday 6 October 2026 · start of Block A

Open Day 2 — Tuesday 12 January 2027 · start of Block B

Both at Harris Academy Sutton, SM2 5QP — entrance via Chiltern Road. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.

Book for 6 October  ·  Book for 12 January

Two Open Days, One for Each Block

Our winter programme runs as two ten-session blocks, and each one opens with a free Open Day. You do not have to wait for a new season to start — if October does not suit, January works just as well.

Block A — Open Day Tuesday 6 October 2026. The block runs Tuesday evenings to 8 December.

Block B — Open Day Tuesday 12 January 2027. The block runs Tuesday evenings to 16 March.

Both Open Days are at Harris Academy Sutton, both are free, and both run the same two sessions on the night. Each one is also session 1 of its block — so a child who enjoys it simply carries on the following Tuesday.

Register on the form for the date you want. They are separate forms, so please use the right one.

Two Sessions on the Night

The same two groups run on both Open Days.

6.10pm to 7.30pm — school years 3 to 6. Softball cricket indoors, boys and girls together. We provide every piece of equipment. Your child needs trainers and something comfortable to move in, and nothing else.

7.40pm to 9.00pm — ages 12 to 15. Hardball. Players at this age should bring their own kit.

Not sure which group your child belongs in? Put "not sure" on the form and we will tell you.

Where to Come

Harris Academy Sutton, 2 Chiltern Road, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5QP. Both Open Days are here.

Come in via Chiltern Road. The school sits on a large campus, so use the Chiltern Road entrance rather than following a postcode to the far side of the site. There is parking.

If your child carries on into the block, sessions 2 to 10 are at Overton Grange School, Stanley Road, Sutton SM2 6TQ — a short drive away. Week one of every block is at Harris.

Who It Is For

Children new to Cheam Cricket Club, in school years 3 to 6 or aged 12 to 15.

There are no trials and no minimum standard. Some children arrive having played for years; others have never held a bat. Both are welcome, and both will be looked after.

Girls and boys train together, and girls play in every age group at this club.

Sessions are led by ECB-qualified coaches working in small groups.

What to Bring

School years 3 to 6: trainers and comfortable sportswear. We provide bats, balls and everything else.

Ages 12 to 15: trainers, sportswear and your own hardball kit.

A drink for both groups. Nothing else is needed, and no whites.

Book Your Free Place

Places are limited and must be booked in advance — please do not just turn up.

The form takes a couple of minutes and you can register up to three children on it. It asks for a date of birth so we put each child in the right group, and for any medical conditions, allergies or additional needs our coaches should know about.

What Happens After the Open Day

Each Open Day is session 1 of its block. There is no obligation to carry on, and nobody will chase you.

If your child enjoys it and you want to book the rest of the block:

Block A — early bird until Wednesday 30 September 2026. £125 members, £150 non-members. From 1 October, £140 members and £170 non-members.

Block B — early bird for new families until Sunday 10 January 2027. Standard pricing from Monday 11 January. Families already in Block A hold their place until Sunday 13 December.

The first session is free as part of the Open Day, for prospective new members.

Sessions run through half term. Members book through Pitchero, where the cost can be spread over instalments. New families book through this website.

Open Day Questions

Is it really free? Yes. Nothing to pay on the night and nothing to join.

Which Open Day should we come to? Whichever suits. 6 October starts Block A, 12 January starts Block B. They are the same session, four months apart.

Can we come to both? The Open Day is for children new to the club, so it is one free taster per child. If you came in October and want to carry on in January, book the block.

Does my child have to have played before? No. Complete beginners are very welcome, and there are no trials.

Is it indoors? Yes — full-size indoor cricket nets, so it goes ahead whatever the weather.

Can girls come? Yes, to both sessions, training alongside boys in the same groups.

Do I have to book? Yes. Places are limited and we need to know numbers to plan the groups.

Do we have to sign up for anything afterwards? No.

Cheam Cricket Club has played at Peaches Close, Sutton since 1864 and competes in the Surrey Championship. Families travel to us from Sutton, Cheam, Belmont, North Cheam, Worcester Park, Banstead, Ewell, Carshalton and Mitcham.
