Cheam CC junior training — our own programmes

The heart of the junior section is our own club training at Peaches Close — Tuesday evenings with our ECB-qualified coaches, leading into league cricket and friendlies with all match fees included. No trials, ever.

Junior Development — ages 7 to 10 — £150. Twelve weeks of summer training on our own ground. The step up from Mini Crickets and Dynamos.

Junior Performance — ages 11 and up — £175. Twelve weeks, the hardball pathway, and the route into the Cheam CC Academy.

Winter training — school years 3 to 6 and ages 12 to 16. Indoor at Harris Academy and Overton Grange, Tuesday evenings from October.

Brothers and sisters: 2nd child 15% off, 3rd and after 30% off — and no family pays more than £400 a season.

Cheam Lionesses — girls cricket, and somewhere to go next

Girls-only Dynamos is a way of running the programme, not an ECB brand of its own — so the national finder cannot tell you what a club actually does with it. This page can.

Do you think your child is ready for more?

If you have already begun their cricket education — a season of Mini Crickets, All Stars, or just a lot of back-garden bowling — then from age seven they can join the Cheam U8 squad and take on a more structured and formal cricket programme. This is the point where it stops being an introduction and becomes cricket. If they are already with us on Cheam Mini Crickets, All Stars or Dynamos, you only pay the difference.

Questions parents actually ask

What is the difference between All Stars and Mini Crickets?
All Stars is a taster — eight weekly sessions to find out whether your child likes cricket, with no formal coaching component. Cheam Mini Crickets is ten Tuesdays of actual coaching, built specifically for four to seven-year-olds. All Stars is on a Friday, so plenty of families do both.

Are these boys only, or girls only?
Mixed. Cheam Mini Crickets, All Stars and Dynamos are all open to boys and girls training together, grouped by school year or age rather than by gender. The only single-sex option is girls-only Dynamos, for families who want it.

Does either one include club membership?
No. All Stars is an ECB course booking. Mini Crickets has its own membership covering the ten weeks. Full club membership starts at U8.

When can my child actually join the club?
From age seven, once the basic skills are there. The U8 programme is a twelve-week block with longer sessions and more technical coaching — this is where proper cricket training begins and where they start playing league games and friendlies against other clubs.

My daughter wants girls-only. Is that a thing?
Yes. Dynamos can be run as girls-only sessions and we do. There is no girls-only All Stars anywhere in the country.

Does she need kit?
No. Comfortable sportswear is fine, and we lend bats, balls and pads to anyone starting out.

What happens if it rains?
Sessions lost to bad weather are replaced, at the discretion of the club and the third-party providers who deliver the programme. This applies to Cheam Mini Crickets, All Stars and Dynamos alike.
