Winter Training Dates 2026/27

Winter training runs on Tuesday evenings in two ten-session blocks. Every date is listed below, so you can check the calendar before you book.

Block A — Tuesday 6 October to Tuesday 8 December 2026

Two things worth knowing before you book.

Sessions run straight through half term. Tuesday 27 October 2026 and Tuesday 16 February 2027 both go ahead as normal — a lot of families are surprised by that, so it is worth putting in the diary.

Week one of each block is at a different school from the rest. Session 1 of Block A, on Tuesday 6 October, is at Harris Academy Sutton, and the Winter Open Day runs alongside it. Session 1 of Block B, on Tuesday 12 January, is also at Harris. Every other session is at Overton Grange School. Please check the venue before you set off.

Where We Train — Indoor Cricket Nets in Sutton and Cheam

Harris Academy Sutton — 2 Chiltern Road, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5QP. Entrance via Chiltern Road. This is where week one of each block is held, alongside the free Winter Open Day.

Overton Grange School — Stanley Road, Sutton, Surrey. Sessions 2 to 10 of each block.

Both venues have full-size indoor cricket nets, so sessions run whatever the weather is doing outside. Both have parking, and both are a short drive from the A217 and A232.

Cheam Cricket Club has played at Peaches Close, Sutton SM2 7BJ since 1864 and competes in the Surrey Championship.

Where our families come from. Winter training draws children from across SM1, SM2 and SM3 — Sutton, Belmont, Cheam, North Cheam and Worcester Park — and from Banstead, Ewell, Worcester Park, Carshalton and Mitcham. If you are within about fifteen minutes of Sutton, you are in our catchment.

Winter Cricket Prices

Early bird — book by Tuesday 30 September 2026. £125 for members. £150 for non-members. That is the full ten-session block.

Standard price — from 1 October. £140 for members. £170 for non-members.

Not ready to commit to a whole block? Try three sessions for £48 as a member, or £54 as a non-member. If you upgrade to a full block within seven days, £25 comes off the price. You can also drop in for a single session at £18 for members, £20 for non-members.

Brothers and sisters get 10% off every additional child.

The first session is free as part of the Open Day, for prospective new members.

How to book. Members book through Pitchero, where the cost can be spread over instalments. New families book through this website. Whichever route you use, the early bird price is held to the date you book — so booking early protects the lower price even if you pay later.

Who Winter Training Is For

School years 3 to 6 — 6.10pm to 7.30pm. Softball cricket indoors. Every piece of equipment is provided; your child needs trainers and something comfortable to move in. Nothing else.

Ages 12 to 16 — 7.40pm to 9.00pm. Hardball. Players at this age should bring their own kit.

Girls and boys train together in both sessions. Girls are welcome throughout, and our girls section is growing — girls play in every age group at this club, not in a separate afterthought.

There are no trials. There is no minimum standard and nobody is turned away. Some children arrive having played for five years; others have never held a bat. Sessions are led by ECB-qualified coaches working in small groups, which means the quieter children get looked after rather than lost at the back of a queue.

If your child has never played, the sensible first step is the free Winter Open Day on Tuesday 6 October. Come along, see whether they enjoy it, and decide afterwards. There is nothing to pay and no obligation to carry on.

Winter Cricket — Your Questions Answered

Do sessions really run through half term? Yes. Tuesday 27 October 2026 and Tuesday 16 February 2027 both go ahead as normal.

What if we cannot make every week? Take the three-session trial, or drop in for single sessions. If you decide to do the full block within seven days of the trial, £25 comes off.

My child has never played cricket. Will they be out of their depth? No. There are no trials and no minimum standard, and beginners are in every group. Small coaching groups mean nobody gets left behind.

Is it indoors? Yes — full-size indoor cricket nets at both schools. Nothing gets cancelled for rain.

Do we need to bring equipment? Not for school years 3 to 6, where everything is provided. Ages 12 to 16 play hardball and should bring their own kit.

Do we have to be club members? No. Non-members are welcome at the non-member price. Members pay less and can spread the cost through Pitchero.

Which venue, and where do we park? Week one of each block is at Harris Academy Sutton, SM2 5QP, entrance via Chiltern Road. Sessions 2 to 10 are at Overton Grange School. Both have parking.

Can girls come? Yes, to both sessions. Girls train alongside boys in the same groups.
