Girls' cricket in Sutton: how to get started this winter at Cheam

Girls and boys train side by side at Cheam Cricket Club's junior winter sessions every Tuesday evening. Whatever the level, every child who wants to play is welcome, and new families can book a free taster.

If you are looking for girls' cricket in Sutton, winter is the easiest time to start. Cheam Cricket Club, founded in 1864 and based at Peaches Close, welcomes girls into junior cricket from their very first steps, and our indoor winter training means there is no waiting for the summer season.

How winter training works

Training is on Tuesday evenings, in two blocks of ten sessions. Block A runs until 8 December, and Block B runs from 12 January to 16 March 2027. Girls and boys train together, in small groups led by ECB-qualified coaches.

Children in school years 3 to 6 train from 6.10pm to 7.30pm. They play softball cricket, all the equipment is provided, and they only need trainers and comfortable clothing. Players in school years 7 to 11 train from 7.40pm to 9pm, and some of those sessions use a hard ball.

Sessions two to ten of each block are at Overton Grange School on Stanley Road, Sutton, except the sessions on Tuesday 3 and Tuesday 10 November, which are at Harris Academy Sutton, 2 Chiltern Road, Sutton SM2 5QP. The first session of each block is also at Harris Academy Sutton. Both have indoor nets and parking. A single session is £20 (£18 for members), or £54 for a package of three.

Beyond the winter

Winter training is the first step into the girls' pathway at Cheam, which includes matches and festivals from May to August and summer camps in the school holidays. A girl's first season of membership is £85, with match fees included, and bursaries are available for families who need financial support.
